19 murders in San Antonio since May 1

Calls for shootings up from last year

SAN ANTONIO – After a string of violent days in the city, San Antonio police reports that calls for shootings have slightly increased since last year.

From May 1 to June 19, there have been 213 shooting-related calls.

There were 207 shooting-related calls during the same time period in 2015.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, an East Side couple came home to find a burglar in their house. The unwanted guests shot and killed the man and critically injured the woman.

Bexar County deputies found a body riddled with bullets in a drainage ditch Monday.

On Sunday, a man was shot several times following an argument at a South Side apartment.

Hours earlier on the Southwest Side, an alleged case of road rage turned deadly. A man was shot and killed after a confrontation between drivers along Loop 410 near Ray Ellison Drive.

“The trend nationally is violent crime is up, and San Antonio is not an exception to that trend,” Chief William McManus said Friday, while at the scene of murder-suicide in which a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and then killed himself on the Southeast Side.

Thursday night, police arrested a man for stabbing to death his pregnant girlfriend on the Northeast Side.

"Its not an issue of how many police officers you have,” McManus said Friday. “Many of these murders occur indoors. Difficult if not impossible to prevent.”

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call police.
