SAN ANTONIO – The family of a 21-year-old shot and killed Tuesday morning is asking for the person who did it to come forward.
"This is my grandson, my oldest grandson," said Tyania Kindle, Deontre Lott's grandmother. "It's not supposed to be like this. Oh God no."
San Antonio police said Lott was a passenger in a car in the 1400 block of Hays Street early Tuesday morning when he was shot.
Kindle said the friend, who Deontre was riding with, took him to the hospital, where he later died.
That same friend told the family a man at a convenience store on Hays Street asked them where they were from and when they answered, "California," that man fired shots at the car they were in, hitting Lott in the face.
"People who know what's going on should speak up because, what if it was your child?" said Patricia Dickerson, a family friend. "You would want someone to speak up."
Kindle said her grandson would make everyone smile and he was loved by so many.
"Deontre could dance like Chris Brown," said Kindle. "He was a comedian. I mean he was so talented, basketball. Oh my gosh!"
"My son was a good child," said Tiffany Lott, Deontre Lott's mother. "That's one thing I can tell you. He was a good son and I'm really going to miss my son."
Kindle said she has prayed for the families of other shooting victims on the Eastside, but never thought she would be burying her own grandson.
“He was full of life, full of joy, never in a million years would you think this would be happening," said Kindle.
Kindle is also inviting the community to join the family at the basketball courts at the Jean Yates Community Center on Rasa Drive on Hunt Lane for a vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
