Omar Hartfield charged in slaying of Benjamin Ross

SAN ANTONIO – A 40-year-old man was arrested by Bexar County sheriff's investigators in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred more than two years ago.

Omar Hartfield, 40, is charged in the slaying of Benjamin Ross, Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman James Keith said.

Ross' body was found in a vehicle that had been set on fire in the 21000 block of Highway 281 South on May 3, 2014.

New information from members of the community led investigators to Hartfield, who confessed to the killing. He claimed an argument over the theft of drugs led to the shooting, Keith said.

The investigation is ongoing, as other people may have been involved in the slaying, Keith said.

Hartfield is already in the Bexar County Jail for unrelated parole violations.
