SAN ANTONIO – Benjamin Willis, 28, is suspected of stealing $19,000 worth of tires and rims from vehicles parked at a local car dealership. However, San Antonio police said he has admitted to stealing only one set of wheels.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that police received the report about the theft at Mission Mitsubishi Nov. 2. About $19,000 worth of tires and rims were missing from vehicles on the car lot, the affidavit said.
A witness at a nearby business saw the theft being committed and took pictures with her cell phone, police said.
The affidavit said that an officer investigating the case recognized the man in the photos as Willis from previous encounters.
Willis was taken into custody Nov. 5 on unrelated charges. Police said after realizing that detectives had photos of him at the scene of the theft, Willis admitted to stealing one set of tires and rims, worth about $3,500.
A charge of theft, $2,500-30,000 was filed against him Monday.
