SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Shoemakers and Operation Homefront partnered to give active-duty military families full Thanksgiving meals.
Hundreds of military families picked up theirs on Saturday. They were given a turkey, vegetables, dessert and a gift card for anything else they might need.
San Antonio Shoemakers said this is just one way to give thanks to service members for all they’ve done for the country.
“Thanksgiving can be a really hard time for a lot of people, especially if you're cash strapped or military,” said Tyler Remmert, SA Shoemakers project manager. “I think that you can see on their face when they're walking out with the turkey and the full Thanksgiving meal, you can just see sort of the look of relief."
SA Shoemakers will distribute 1,600 full Thanksgiving meals this year to military families in San Antonio, Abilene, Del Rio, Houston, Corpus Christi and Wichita.
Five hundred of those meals are going to families in San Antonio.
