Man attacked with spiked brass knuckles, shovel, police say

Victim injured while fighting with girlfriend's son

SAN ANTONIO – A West Side man, who San Antonio police said attacked his mother's boyfriend with a set of spiked brass knuckles Wednesday, was taken into police custody.

Neighbors called police shortly after 7 a.m. to report seeing two men fighting outside a woman's home at Northwest 28th Street near Menchaca.

"Apparently, there was an argument this morning between the (woman's) boyfriend and the son, and it culminated out here," police Sgt. Ramiro Garcia said. "It was quite a fight out here, and the mother got in the middle of them and stopped them."

The woman's 22-year-old boyfriend was cut, police said.

Garcia said it appears her 23-year-old son used several items as weapons, including a set of brass knuckles with sharp spikes.

"There were a few objects used, like a shovel and the brass knuckles, and I'm not sure what else was used," Garcia said.

The boyfriend was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman's son was taken to jail.

Neighbors and police said it's not unusual for the son to be involved in commotions in the neighborhood and often stands in the street yelling.

Police did not immediately release the names of either men.
