Surprise! Unexpected baby sloth born at Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo

Baby sloth born at zoo in New Braunfels fits in palm of caretaker's hand

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo is celebrating the birth of a Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth, born on Nov. 17.

The adorable baby sloth was a surprise to zoo staff because the thick, wiry fur of sloths makes it difficult to see outward signs of pregnancy.

The zoo is encouraged by the birth because it demonstrates the healthy captivity the sloths enjoy.

Captive breeding of sloths isn’t considered rare, but many facilities worldwide are unsuccessful at enticing reproduction.
