NE Side man accused of killing wife has domestic violence history

Lewis Bright, 47, had prior arrest in Indiana

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of fatally stabbing his wife inside their Northeast Side apartment had a prior history of domestic violence, records reveal.

KSAT 12 News discovered records online showing that Lewis Bright, 47, was arrested in Indiana on a domestic battery charge.

Officials with the Allen County (Indiana) Sheriff's Office confirmed that he was named in an active warrant for alleging he violated his probation related to the charge.

A spokesman with the agency said the warrant was issued in December 2016, but he was not able to provide any details of the incident or determine whether the victim in that case is the same woman he's accused of killing.

Bright was arrested Monday in San Antonio on a murder charge.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, SAPD investigators believe that on Nov. 16, he repeatedly stabbed his estranged wife, Erica Bright, 32, inside their apartment in the 14900 block of Nacogdoches Road.

The affidavit said Lewis Bright then drove her to a nearby urgent care clinic and left her there.

Detectives said before she died, Erica Bright was able to tell them who stabbed her and where she lived.

Police went to the apartment and found a bloody knife, believed to be the murder weapon, and pools of coagulated blood, the affidavit said.

A child who lived with the couple told detectives that he came home from school and saw the couple in a car shortly after the attack.

The affidavit said Erica Bright was sitting with her head leaning back and her eyes closed and had blood coming out of her mouth.

Police said the child told them that the suspect said his wife had "cut herself."

Lewis Bright reportedly called the child later and gave him orders to clean up the blood inside the apartment, the affidavit said.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Lewis Bright's arrest the day after his wife was stabbed and arrested him earlier this week.
