Neighbor returns home to find woman next door 'on fire, head to toe,' helps put fire out

Fire occurred at a home 13300 block of Bald Mountain Dr.

BEXAR COUNTY – A woman in far West Bexar County was taken to an area hospital after she was seriously burned in an apparent garage fire, the Bexar County Fire Department said Tuesday.

The fire occurred at a home in the 13300 block of Bald Mountain Drive, which is located not far from Marbach Road and Loop 1604.

Rose Garcia, a neighbor to the woman injured, said she and her daughter were returning home from dropping the kids off at school when they say they saw the woman in the garage "on fire, head to toe."

The pair stopped and helped her roll around on the ground until the fire was put out, she said.

The unidentified woman was taken to an area hospital by ambulance.  Her condition and age are not currently known.

According to a Bexar County Fire Division Chief, firefighters arrived to find the woman on the ground outside the home. He said the fire appears to have started in the garage and that's where the majority of the damage is.

KSAT 12 reported seeing soot around the upper floor windows and as well as smoke visible through a skylight on the house as well.

The fire division chief said there was furniture in the garage but nothing else in the rest of the house. It was vacant and looked like someone was in the process of moving in or out, he said.
