Man, 18, charged with capital murder after mother found dead in West Side home

SAN ANTONIOUPDATE: An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with his mother’s killing on the West Side.

A co-worker of the victim noticed that the woman hadn’t gone to work and tried calling her several times. She later called a relative to check on the victim, and the relative found the woman dead, police said.

San Antonio police said officers were called to a home in the 7500 block of Stagecoach Lane on Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found 53-year-old Mary Dempsey dead in the home. Her car, a beige 2016 Honda Accord with license plate: JWC2803, had been taken.

After conducting an investigation, police said they believe the victim’s son, 18-year-old Matthew Dempsey, was involved in his mother’s murder.

Officers located Matthew Dempsey in the 7600 block of West Military Drive, where he was taken into custody.

After detectives interviewed him, they believed they had enough probable cause to charge him with capital murder, police said. Police said they had enough evidence to place Matthew Dempsey at the scene.

Police also said there were no signs of forced entry.

Investigators still haven’t released a motive for the killing. Several witnesses are still being questioned.

Police believe Matthew Dempsey did not live with his mother.

San Antonio police said they received a call Monday night for shots fired. They did not go into detail about the actions taken by the officer who responded to the call.

Police are still looking for the Honda. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities.
