Gov. Greg Abbott signs Kali's Law to protect boaters

Law would require extra safety precautions

SAN ANTONIO – After facing the death of their own daughter, parents of a San Antonio teen fought to protect others.

On Tuesday, the parents Kali Gorzell were present as Gov. Greg Abbott signed Kali's Law. The legislation requires all kill switches on boats less than 26 feet long to have a lanyard attached.

The law would be for boater safety in the event someone falls into the water and the engine needs to be killed.

Gorzell died in a boating accident seven years ago. He mother has said this law means her death was not in vain.
