SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio man credited with inventing concession nachos has died. Frank Liberto, the founder of Ricos Products, died Sunday at the age of 84.
A company statement noted that Liberto died the day before National Nachos Day, an unofficial holiday celebrating the chips-and-cheese snack.

Liberto grew up in San Antonio. He graduated from Central Catholic High School prior to receiving his marketing degree from St. Mary’s University. He served in the Army before founding Ricos Products in 1977.
Liberto is credited with making nachos a concession stand staple by inventing a shelf-stable liquid cheese.
Ricos Products is a subsidiary of Liberto Specialty Co., which is a fifth-generation family business started in 1909.
“Our father Frank Liberto was a man of integrity,” said Ricos President and CEO Tony Liberto. “He led our company with an entrepreneur spirit and a passion that had an impact on his family of employees, customers, business associates and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on forever.”
