Leaders gather to listen to community about where budget money should be spent

Public had chance to speak to officials afterwards

SAN ANTONIO – Council members from District 2 and 3 joined other city leaders and the mayor to listen to the community about where it thinks budget money should be spent.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg spoke about improving underserved communities, while City Manager Sheryl Sculley gave a presentation on the proposed budget, which includes adding 40 new police officers.

The public got a chance to speak to the officials afterward.

District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran said it's important for city leaders to hear issues directly from the people affected.

"Now the mayor and the leadership are also stopping and paying attention to those voices, and that's what it takes," Viagran said. "It takes our citizens coming and making sure our voice is heard."
