SAN ANTONIO – A man is dead following a shooting during an apparent drug deal on the city’s East Side early Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

Officers were called just before 9 a.m. to a Super 8 motel in the 300 block of Roland Road, not far from Pecan Valley Drive after receiving reports of a shooting.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, officers arrived at the scene to find the victim dead in the motel’s parking lot.

McManus said the victim, 30, had been staying at the motel and had approached the passenger side of a vehicle when he was shot from behind by two men during transaction. The chief said there was no description of the shooters because they were covered up.

Authorities say the assailants left the scene in a white pickup truck in an unknown direction after the shooting.

Police said they now intend to look at surveillance video for more clues.
