San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff updated the community about the local response to COVID-19 in their daily briefing Wednesday night.
Nirenberg reported 47,887 total COVID-19 cases and 981 total deaths in Bexar County, as of Wednesday, an increase of 151 new cases. Two new deaths were reported today. The 7-day moving average of cases is 175.
City officials also reported that 298 patients are hospitalized , 130 are in the intensive care unit and 84 are on ventilators. There are 14% of staffed beds available and 67% of ventilators available.
The school risk level is āmoderate.ā Nirenberg said the level can be moved to ālowā when the positivity rate goes below 5%. The current positivity rate is 6.7%.
Wolff said the jail has 23 inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19 -- 22 male inmates and 1 female inmate. He said the county is still managing a larger population at the jail due to the inmates who have still not been transferred to state prisons.
Wolff said 151 citations -- 76 for businesses and 75 for large gatherings -- have been issued for violating emergency orders.
