Southwest Side home destroyed after late-night fire, SAFD says

Fire was called in around 10:20 p.m. in 9200 block of Echo Port Drive

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters are looking for answers after a Southwest Side home was destroyed by flames late Sunday night.

The fire was called in around 10:20 p.m. at a home in the 9200 block of Echo Port Drive, not far from Loop 410 and Old Pearsall Road.

Firefighters said they arrived to find flames showing on both the back and side of the house. They had to evacuate homes on both sides and were able to get two of three residents from inside safely out.

Fire officials say it is unclear if the third resident was inside at the time of the fire. The roof and floor both collapsed while battling the fire and the main walls were leaning towards a possible collapse as well, firefighters said.

The stability issues kept firefighters from further searching the home. The house is likely to be demolished as a result of the flames, the SAFD said.

A fire investigation team is now trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The San Antonio Fire Department, the San Antonio Police Department and EMS all responded to the call.

There were no reports of any injuries.
