SAN ANTONIO – A student at Kallison Elementary School was taken into custody for bringing a gun to the Northwest Side campus, according to the Northside Independent School District.

The student, an 11-year-old boy in the fifth grade, reported himself to a school counselor on Thursday, launching an investigation, district spokesperson Barry Perez said.

He turned the gun in to the counselor and is facing disciplinary action.

The gun, which was unloaded, was shown to one student on campus, Perez said. Administrators believe three other students were aware of the weapon. None of the students reported the weapon.

Perez said that the parents of the students were contacted by phone, and a letter was sent home to the parents of the rest of the school this afternoon.

This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
