SAN ANTONIO – A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of a suspect accused of shooting and killing a man last month, records show.
Seth Angel Arocha Garcia, 23, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with murder, according to booking records with the Bexar County Jail.
He is accused of shooting Eloy Hernandez, 35, on June 7 in the 1800 block of West Laurel Street, just west of downtown.
Police said the suspect and victim were having an argument before shots were fired. Hernandez was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
In the days following the shooting, police and Crime Stoppers released surveillance footage of the suspect and victim and asked for the public’s help in identifying the shooter.
The video showed the suspect, who had a beard and curly hair, holding a gun, according to an arrest warrant affidavit
The affidavit states they received multiple Crime Stoppers tips that named the suspect as “Rico.”
One tip given on June 23 identified the suspect as Garcia. The tipster added that Garcia shot himself in the foot to make it seem as if he was shot by Hernandez and Garcia recently cut his hair, the affidavit states.
Detectives investigated Garcia and found that he was hospitalized for the self-inflicted gunshot wound. When an officer interviewed Garcia about his gunshot wound, he was “clean shaven” and had a “fresh haircut,” the affidavit states.
A warrant for his arrest was issued on Thursday. Records show he is being held on a $250,000 bond.
