Two sections of Broadway near downtown will be closed for the remainder of the year due to ongoing construction.
Broadway from 4th Street to McCullough Avenue and 6th Street to Brooklyn will be closed starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, and lasting through December 2023.
The intersection of Broadway and McCullough will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic on McCullough.
People will still have access to businesses along and near Broadway, and pedestrians will still have access to existing sidewalks on both sides, according to city officials.
There will be signage to alert drivers to detours.
“The City has met and will continue to meet with stakeholders to ensure they are receiving support, information and resources during this period,” a news release from Public Works states.
This is the next phase of the 2017 Lower Broadway bond project, which dedicates $42 million to a reconstruction of the roadway. That work includes adding bike lakes, underground drainage, pedestrian lighting, landscaping and more.
The project started in the summer of 2020 and is expected to last until the summer of 2024.
