Karnes City students set to receive refurbished laptops

KARNES CITY, Texas – According to a press release, AT&T and Human-I-T have teamed up with the South Texas Business Partnership to give laptops to students in need.

On-site community leaders will give out 80 refurbished laptops at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Karnes County Courthouse.

The press release stated that pre-selected area students who are in need will receive the computers.

The initiative is part of AT&T’s effort to bridge the digital divide, which is defined as a person or a group that lacks broadband access.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 7 million people and nearly 2.8 million households in Texas are part of the digital divide.

AT&T said it is committing $5 billion to connect 25 million people to high-speed internet by 2030.
