Arena plan could spur Alamodome development

Anticipated investment in the Hemisfair area has rekindled interest in a key downtown site.

SAN ANTONIO – Plans for a downtown sports and entertainment district anchored by a billion-dollar Spurs arena and complementary mixed-use projects have sparked renewed interest in potential redevelopment opportunities around the Alamodome.

Among the parties interested in taking a closer look at what’s possible east of Hemisfair is VIA Metropolitan Transit, which controls prime real estate immediately north of the center city stadium.

The mostly undeveloped site includes access points for VIA Park & Ride buses below and is part of the agency’s Thompson Transit Station footprint.

The station is expected to draw heightened activity with the build-out of a new arena district nearby.
