SAN ANTONIO – There are two major construction alerts that drivers on the North Side and Northwest Side will need to be aware of this weekend.
- As part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, TxDOT will require closures for bridge construction on the Northwest Side near La Cantera and The Rim
- Eastbound (EB) and westbound (WB) Loop 1604 main lanes at the Interstate 10 interchange
- EB and WB I-10 main lanes at the Loop 1604 interchange
- EB and WB I-10 frontage roads at the Loop 1604 interchange
- These weekend closures are expected to occur from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, weather permitting.
All flyovers at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open. Travelers are asked to follow detour signage.
Loop 1604 and Blanco Road
Loop 1604 at Blanco Road will also be closed this weekend as crews make final preparations to fully open the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) on the North Side.
Crews will close north and southbound directions of Blanco Road to finish signage, paving, striping and lighting. Access to local businesses will remain open.
The DDI is fully expected to reopen Monday.
This is a major improvement to one of the corridor’s busiest intersections: Loop 1604 and Blanco Road. The DDI moves traffic more efficiently and safely through the area.
What is a DDI?
A DDI is an innovative intersection design that shifts traffic to the left side of the roadway as drivers travel on Blanco Road through the interchange. This shift allows vehicles to make free-flowing left turns without crossing opposing traffic.
Why a DDI at Blanco Road?
The Loop 1604-Blanco Road intersection is one of the most heavily traveled areas on the North Side. A DDI helps address congestion and safety challenges.
