Two people are dead after a car crash Wednesday morning in southwest Bexar County, officials said. The crash occurred at Loop 1604 and Benton City Road, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. A vehicle was traveling westbound on Loop 1604 at a high rate of speed and began to run off the side of the road, officials said. When the vehicle tried to get back into its lane, the driver overcompensated and swerved into oncoming traffic, BCSO said. The east and westbound lanes of Loop 1604 were shut down between Somerset Road and Interstate 35 for several hours but reopened at 1 p.m.

Officials ID man killed in head-on crash with Mercedes-Benz; suspect arrested
SAN ANTONIO The Bexar County Medical Examiners Office has identified a 44-year-old man who was killed in a head-on crash on the North Side early Saturday. Gabriel Gallegos died at the scene of the wreck around 2 a.m. on Loop 1604 and Lockhill Selma Road, officials said. He was driving an SUV and traveling eastbound on Loop 1604 when he was struck head-on by a Mercedes Benz sedan driven by Mariana Campos-Jimenez, 20, according to San Antonio police. Campos-Jimenez has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter, online jail records show. SAN ANTONIO - Mathew Gavin Walence has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred in Live Oak Friday morning and shut down traffic for six hours on Interstate 35 near Loop 1604. Walence's car hit a concrete barrier around 3:45 a.m. and screeched along it for around 100 yards before stopping on the right side of the highway. The car was then hit by another car driven by Violeta Martinez, 25, which caused Walence to be ejected from his vehicle. Police are still searching for the driver of the first car that hit Walence because the driver didn't stop.

Matt Malone, with the Live Oak Police Department said the man who was killed had been traveling south on I-35 when his car hit a concrete barrier. However, Malone said the first driver who hit the man after he was ejected did not stop. As a result of the crash, all lanes of southbound I-35, starting just north of Loop 1604, are closed. SAN ANTONIO - A man and a woman allegedly attempted to kidnap a child in a neighborhood in the Far West Side. The girl and her 5-year-old sister were playing outside when Schapira and Benitez, who were walking their dog, approached them, officials said. The 5-year-old alerted her mother while the pair allegedly led her sister away, holding her hand. Schapira and Benitez were arrested after officials received tips from the neighborhood, Salazar said. Loop 1604 and Bandera Road Intersection Closed This Weekend
If your weekend plans involved driving around the Loop 1604 and Bandera Road intersection, you might want to change those plans. Vehicles going north and south on State Highway 16 (Bandera Road) will have to drive around Loop 1604 to get back on the highway. The intersection is one of San Antonios busiest: Around 40,000 cars use Bandera Road, and 120,000 cars use Loop 1604 every day, said Hernan Rozemberg, spokesman for the Texas Department of Transportation San Antonio District. The intersection closed back in April when TxDOT was working on constructing the new displaced left turn, which gives drivers on Bandera Road the option to get onto Loop 1604 access roads without getting on the highway. Harper Brothers, the contractor working on the Loop 1604 and Bandera Road intersection, will assume all costs for repaving the intersection, Rozemberg said.
