VOLLEYBALL: O'Connor sweeps defending champs Brandeis, Warren edges Marshall
The 2022 high school volleyball season began on Monday night, and the defending UIL Class 6A State champion Brandeis Broncos faced traditional powerhouse O'Connor in their first match. The Panthers swept the Broncos in convincing fashion while Warren edged Marshall in the second game of a doubleheader at Northside Sports Gym.

High school volleyball history was made Tuesday night, as Sotomayor claimed the program’s first set win and then defeated San Antonio Christian in an epic five-set match to clinch the first varsity victory in program history. In other non-conference action, Clark improved to 2-0 on the season with a sweep of Antonian.

With two Nazareth runners threatening to score in the bottom of the first inning of the UIL Class 1A State Championship Game, D'Hanis junior outfielder Layton Herrmann completed a remarkable unassisted double play to keep the Swifts off the board, propelling the Cowboys to their first state title since 2019.
