AUSTIN, Texas – Opening weekend for the new COTALAND Austin theme park at the Circuit of the Americas quickly went from exciting to terrifying for some thrill-seekers when the park’s Circuit Breaker roller coaster came to an unexpected stop not once, but twice.
The first incident happened Saturday with 19 riders aboard.
The coaster vehicle stopped in a vertical tilt position, leaving riders safely secured for about nine minutes before returning to a horizontal position, COTALAND told CBSAustin and KVUE.
The ride stopped again on Sunday.
This time, riders waited about two minutes before the vehicle returned to its normal position, and they exited “normally,” the park told the station.
No one was injured in either incident, and no riders needed medical treatment.
Cotaland said the Circuit Breaker is equipped with multiple sensors and safety systems that continuously monitor the ride.
The park also said occasional operational stops are a normal part of running “sophisticated amusement rides.”
