On Wednesday, RetailMeNot, a website company containing a collection of coupons, announced on its social media pages it was awarding Gager with a brand-new car after hearing she was having issues with her personal vehicle.

“RetailMeNot reached out to me last week and said they just wanted to interview me. I had no idea about the car,” Garger, 39, told KSAT.com. “So, they came to San Antonio and they said they had heard I was having car issues and next thing you know, we walked outside and there was this car!”

Gager, a Navy and Army veteran, said she’s all too familiar with the devastation caused by a major hurricane after losing everything she owned during Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

“It destroyed my entire apartment complex in Newsport News, Virginia, and I lost everything,” Gager told KSAT.com. “So, when Hurricane Harvey hit, I said, ‘You know what, I can do something for them (victims).’”

A mother of three, Gager said she normally disposed of the coupons for items that were highly needed for Harvey victims, such as diapers, baby food, certain deodorant and other supplies.

“So, I said, ‘Hey, I throw those coupons away every month, and so I can use those coupons to go get what I need.' I just felt that I had to do something, knowing the situation that I had been in before,” Gager told KSAT.com.
