Luke Skywalker gets into net neutrality Twitter feud with Ted Cruz

The (Twitter) force was not with Senator Ted Cruz on Sunday when he called out Star Wars icon Mark Hamill for his stance on net neutrality.

The feud started when Hamill tweeted a photo of FCC chairman Ajit Pai saying Pai was unworthy to wield a lightsaber.

"A Jedi acts selflessly for the common man - NOT lie 2 enrich giant corporations," Hamil said in his Tweet referencing the dismantling of Obama-era net neutrality protections.

Senator Cruz supported the repeal of net neutrality and replied to Hamill's tweet saying in part, that "it was Vader who supported government power over everything said & done on the Internet. That's why giant corps (Google, Facebook, Netflix) supported the FCC power grab of net neutrality. Reject the dark side:  Free the net!"

Hamill didn't appreciate Cruz misspelling his name in the tweet, nor did he appreciate Cruz's attempt to try to school him in the very movie series he starred in.

"I know politics can be confusing, but you'd have more credibility if you spelled my name correctly," Hamill replied. "I mean IT'S RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU! Maybe you're just distracted from watching porn at the office again."

Hamill's pornography at the office comment was in reference to an incident in which a pornographic video was liked by Cruz's Twitter account. A spokesperson for Cruz said the post was removed by staff and reported to Twitter.

Cruz responded to Hamill's tweet saying, "Yes, that's it. So sorry to misspell your name. Respond not with facts, but with anger. Who was it that said, 'Fear is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate?' Rather than insults, try civil discussion of facts. Fact 1: until 2015, the FCC had NO authority over Internet. The Net grew free & unregulated. Fact 2: W/ 'net neutrality' the FCC declared power to regulate everything said & done on Internet. That's really bad for freedom."

Hamill left the Twitter duel at that, but many showed support for the Jedi's comeback.
