Man fatally shot at East Side park identified

Michael Williams, 35, was killed at South Side Lion's Park Monday night

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office has identified the name of the man shot and killed at an East Side park on Monday night.

35-year-old Michael Williams was fatally shot at South Side Lion’s Park which is located in the 3100 block of Hiawatha Street.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, a fight broke out between an ex-boyfriend of a woman and her new boyfriend during a children's sporting event.

That's when, police said, one of the men stabbed the other in the neck. A friend pulled out a gun and shot Williams during the fight, police said.

Williams died at the scene and the man stabbed was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, officials said.

The gunman ran from the scene following the shooting.

The incident took place while children were practicing at the park, and police said they were lucky no one else got caught in the crosshairs.

A search for the gunman is on-going.
