Program could make being caught with small amount of marijuana a ticketable offense

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Being caught with a small amount of marijuana may not mean automatic jail time anymore. The Bexar County district attorney and sheriff are working on a proposed cite-and-release program which would make it a ticketable offense.

District Attorney Nico LaHood said it's a common sense approach that would save time for law enforcement and help those who are busted clear their names.

"It gives the citizen accused an opportunity to be involved in a program that will keep that charge off the record and not be filed at all," LaHood said.

Harris County, the city of Dallas and Austin have all approved similar programs.
