Scholar Athlete: Abigail Gatlin, Southwest

What are you most excited about for your senior year and why?
I am most excited about my senior year festivities, such as homecoming and the weekly themes we have at Southwest HS. I am also looking forward to my senior softball season because they both create great memories.

What drives you to be successful in the classroom and in your particular sport?
I balance my homework, participation in sports, and spending time with my family and friends by utilizing my time wisely, putting first things first, being proactive, and beginning with the end in mind. From doing homework on my way to practice or games to have time to be with my loved ones.

How do you balance homework, participation in sports and spending time with family and friends?
I balance my entire life by putting school work first because without that you really cannot do anything else, then devoting time and effort towards my sport, and finally spending time with family and friends. I treat spending time with friends as a personal reward so that I have increased motivation to complete the first two tasks.

How do you want to be remembered at school once you graduate?
When I graduate, I want to be remembered as a hard-working student-athlete that was always kind to everyone and a great leader.

Where do you want to attend college, major in and why?
I am going to continue my education and softball career at Texas A&M Commerce.  I am going to major in pre-physical therapy because I want to help people who have gone through traumatic situations.

If you could have one superhero power, what would it be and why?
If I could have one superpower, I would have the power to fly, so I could travel and experience the whole world.

If you could take any athlete or celebrity to your senior prom, who would it be and why?
If I could take any athlete to my senior prom I would take Kris Bryant because he is a great leader of the Cubs organization and led his team to the World Series.
