SAN ANTONIO – Did you know giving just $1 to the San Antonio Food Bank provides seven meals for people who are food insecure here in the Alamo City? Some fast facts about the San Antonio Food Bank:A donation of $5 can feed a child for a week. The average number the food bank serves more than doubled during the pandemic to 120,000 per week. The Big Give 2020 raises money for area nonprofits
SAN ANTONIO The Big Give 2020 has kicked off 24 hours of fundraising for hundreds of nonprofit organizations across Bexar County. The event is entirely virtual this year, and the goal is to help fund non-profit organizations. The Big Give 2020 lasts until midnight Thursday. As of now, more than 300 organizations have raised more than $525,000. Since 2014, 217,039 donors have given over $25 million dollars to local nonprofits through The Big Give.

With Fundraiser Cancellations, Emergency Relief Becomes a Focus
The Texas Cavaliers Foundation isnt waiting until Novembers Fiesta to fulfill its charitable mission, instead distributing funding to 69 nonprofits in San Antonio immediately. Our Board of Trustees absolutely adopted this plan with unanimous consent, said Cavaliers Foundation president Vincent Dawson in a statement Tuesday. Meanwhile, the San Antonio Area Foundation is working on a new philanthropic focus in light of COVID-19, according to spokeswoman Rebecca Helterbrand. All of those nonprofits will still be on the website and able to fundraise on the new emergency relief website. Were looking to pivot the Big Give website toward a more community-based relief site for nonprofits, those Big Give nonprofits, Nonprofit Council CEO Scott McAninch said.
