Ruidosa church open house celebrates future of historic structure – The Big Bend Sentinel
By Sam KarasRUIDOSA — For generations, the crumbling adobe church by the side of the road in Ruidosa has piqued the curiosity of motorists on the northern reaches of FM170, better known as the River Road. At the time the church was built in 1915, the town boasted a hundred residents, a school, three general stores and a post office. The church’s architecture reflects the town’s ambition: it was a traditional Catholic Church with two bell towers and an arched vestibule. The Friends of the Ruidosa Church, a nonprofit organization helmed by Keller, aims to preserve this unique slice of border history. “We want it to be an actively-used space, despite its remoteness.”The Friends of the Ruidosa Church invite you to stop by 11 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 23.bigbendsentinel.com

‘Dueling dinosaurs’ fossils donated to North Carolina museum
RALEIGH, N.C. – The fossil skeletons of two dinosaurs intertwined in what looks like a final death match have been donated to a North Carolina museum. The nonprofit organization Friends of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences said in a statement Tuesday that it acquired the fossilized animals with private funds. The Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops horridus known as the dueling dinosaurs were buried together 67 million years ago. The nonprofit said the distinct preservation will give museum paleontologists an unprecedented opportunity for research and education. In June, a U.S. appeals court ruled the fossils belong to the owners of the land’s surface rights, not the owners of the mineral rights.

‘Friends’ reunion special one step closer to reality, sources say
Several news outlets are reporting what “Friends” superfans have dreamed of for years - a possible reunion special. Sources told Variety that an unscripted “Friends” reunion special could be waiting for HBO Max users when the new streaming service launches in May 2020. HBO Max recently purchased the rights to the NBC sitcom for $425 million, which has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity while streaming on Netflix. Deadline also reported that talks are underway for a “Friends” reunion special, saying it’s still in the planning stages. Former show co-creator Marta Kauffman said, “We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot,” at the Tribeca TV Festival in September.
