Project Cool 2026 collected an impressive 490 box fans, exceeding its goal of 350 fans and ensuring hundreds of seniors across San Antonio will have relief from the intense South Texas heat.

United Way of San Antonio is collecting and giving fans to people in need in our community.

District 10 will be distributing fans to seniors who are ages 60 years or older, a current San Antonio resident, and is in critical need of a box fan.

San Antonio has experienced triple-digit temperatures for 42 days, and the extended heat is affecting people’s health.

SAN ANTONIO – As temperatures continue to heat up, Project Cool is in full effect to help seniors in the community stay cool this summer with free fans. Dozens of seniors received 20-inch box fans on Friday. The program's goal is to provide 5,000 fans as a low-cost and low-energy way to keep seniors cool without increasing their electricity bill. Project Cool is organized through the City of San Antonio and various nonprofits, like Catholic Charities. They can be dropped off at Catholic Charities at 202 West French Place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
