Annual Peanut Butter Bowl expands to 10 games, 20 high school football teams in 2021
The annual Peanut Butter Bowl, held in every high school football season since 2016 as a food drive to collect peanut butter and combat chronic hunger, has expanded to 10 games and 20 different teams this season including a pair of Austin schools.
UIL, TAPPS member schools begin summer workout programs with safety protocols in place
June 8 was the first day UIL member schools could hold summer workouts with TAPPS affiliated schools beginning the week prior and all schools would need to implement several protocols in order to return to play safely. First year Steele head football coach, David Saenz Jr., said that fall sports are depending on summer strength and conditioning sessions to operate smoothly. But again, our number one priority is the health and safety of every individual that is on our campus.Stipulations for summer workouts include social distancing 10 feet while active and six feet while at rest in addition to disinfecting equipment. Its also recommended that schools screen their student-athletes for COVID-19 symptoms on paper or with temperature checks at the start of every week of summer workouts, with students self-screening daily. Ron Rittimann, who was named the Alamo Heights head football coach and athletic director in February, said the districts student athletes have been learning the right way to condition this offseason.
Ron Rittimann hired as Alamo Heights ISD Athletic Director, Head Football Coach
After serving 12 seasons as head football coach and athletic coordinator at Johnson High School, Ron Rittimann is leaving the Jaguars to become the new Athletic Director at Alamo Heights Independent School District and head football coach for the Mules. Rittimann takes over for retired head coach Mike Norment, who led the Alamo Heights football team for the past 24 seasons. Rittimann was the first head football coach in Johnson high school history, holding the position since the school opened in 2008.
