Harmony teachers get bonuses during Teacher Appreciation Week
In appreciation of their extraordinary work in educating the students of Harmony Public Schools while serving their communities during one of the most challenging years for educators ever, Harmony Public Schools will award a $250 bonus to nearly 4,000 employees in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. Harmony has schools across Texas including some in the Rio Grande Valley. The bonus will be distributed to employees during Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs May 3-7. “We are extremely proud of their efforts during these extraordinary circumstances.”With approximately 4,000 workers statewide, the total commitment of the Teacher Appreciation Week “Three C” bonus will amount to roughly $1 million. In total, these bonuses and benefits upgrade amount to $4.4 million in additional spending on employees in 2020-21 alone.

SAN ANTONIO August is Teacher Appreciation Month at the San Antonio Zoo with free admission for teachers all month long. Teachers will receive free standard admission for themselves plus 50% off for up to four guests on the day they visit. To qualify, the teacher must be an active employee at any school district in the state and present a valid form of school ID like a copy of a teaching certificate or pay stub. Teachers change lives and we look forward to celebrating them all month long, San Antonio Zoo President and CEO Tim Morrow said.
Southside and Judson ISD Educators Win Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching
Capping off Teacher Appreciation Week, teachers from Southside and Judson Independent School Districts learned Friday evening they were the winners of the Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching, a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding San Antonio educators. The winners were Carol Calderon, a third grade teacher at Heritage Elementary in Southside ISD, and Dorothy Cardenas, an elementary dyslexia therapist at Olympia Elementary in Judson ISD. Calderon is a longtime Southside ISD educator who has taught at Heritage Elementary, located in far South San Antonio, since 2007. Before that, she worked as a fourth grade teacher, reading facilitator, and second grade teacher in Judson ISD and as a first grade teacher in Medina Valley ISD. Last year, San Antonio ISD teacher Andrea Greimel and Fort Sam Houston ISD library media specialist Katie Michna won the Trinity Prize.

The event will be held Aug. 1 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Live Oak IKEA location. According to a news release, the first 150 teachers to arrive at the store will get a free welcome gift when they show their school ID. The event is part of a nationwide initiative from IKEA to support the local teaching community. Teachers can take park in a make-and-take wall art workshop or a clean desk workshop, a news release states.
