Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones' first 100 days has been marked by city council power struggles, tackling a growing deficit and losing a collection of high-profile votes. But the freshman mayor says success is about being able to "look in the mirror."

The San Antonio mayor’s race is quickly veering into “unprecedented” territory with the amount of spending, especially by outside groups. Campaign finance reports filed last week with the city and state show between $2.3 million and $2.9 million has been spent on the race between Gina Ortiz Jones and Rolando Pablos so far.

In the 2025 municipal election in Bexar County, only 5.8% of registered voters participated in early voting, overshadowed by events like Fiesta and confusion from a crowded ballot featuring 27 mayoral candidates.

The latest campaign finance reports show only a handful of mayoral candidates are bringing in big money, which is often out of their own pocket or from out of state.
