SAN ANTONIO โ The tragic case of the so-called Killer Nurse began with the conviction of Genene Jones in 1984 for the murder of a 15-month-old Kerrville baby. Babbitt took over the investigation that began two years earlier under Nicholas "Nico" LaHood, who was the district attorney at the time. โKiller Nurseโ Genene Jones pleads guilty, gets life in prisonPolitics and personalities aside, LaHood said the priorities have always been to get justice for the families of the babies. "Regardless of how we would've handled the case, in the end, the fact that she pled was a victory for the families," LaHood said. โThis has been one of the most challenging cases,โ Babbitt said.
Genene Jonesโ Bible returned in accordance with plea agreement
SAN ANTONIO โ As part of the plea agreement in the Genene Jones murder case, prosecutors promised to return Jonesโ Bible, an address book and several other personal items. As the agreement was being reviewed by District Judge Frank Castro Thursday, the District Attorneyโs Major Crimes Chief Catherine Babbitt told Castro that the state had made good on its promise to return the items. โKiller Nurseโ Genene Jones pleads guilty, gets life in prisonโTheyโre in a box," Babbitt said. โThere is some handwriting of Genene Jones in the Bible...some references to children and to sin,โ Babbitt said last fall. โKiller Nurseโ Genene Jones deemed competent to stand trialIn November of 2019, Jones petitioned the court to have the Bible returned.
