An effort by Houston area officials to thank residents for taking part in the jury selection process has ended with a mistrial in a murder case.

“It would mean that practically in every murder case where you don’t have a witness, all the defendant has to say is that he or she was acting in self-defense to get away with it” he said. “It also means you are going to have a lot of murderers walking free if this becomes law.”

A man was indicted Friday in an April murder case in which the victim was strangled, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
