Eastbound Highway 90 near Loop 410 closed after fatal crash

Crash happened just before 6 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO – A man was hit and killed by a vehicle on a West Side highway early Tuesday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on eastbound Highway 90, near Loop 410.

According to police, officers had difficulty at first figuring out exactly how the person was killed. Police said it was unclear if the person was struck while standing on the highway or while trying to cross, or if he jumped from a bridge.

The Bexar County’s Medical Examiner’s Office has since identified the man as Devon Perkins, 23.

The medical examiner’s office said Perkins died from multiple blunt force injuries, due to vehicles hitting him.

SAPD says two drivers stopped at the scene, one in a pickup truck and one in a compact car. Both vehicles have visible damage. They don’t know which vehicle hit the person first.

The driver of the car told police he lost control when he tried to avoid hitting a sink that was on the roadway. Officers, however, say both vehicles have evidence of hitting the person.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 90 were shut down at Loop 410 to Military Drive as they worked at the scene. The lanes have since reopened.
