SAN ANTONIO – The 2016-2017 academic school year is underway and North East ISD is excited to provide new programs to its 67,000 students attending it's schools.
The district, which has the second largest enrollment numbers in Bexar County, told KSAT 12 it's student population is holding steady.
"Our school district is getting close to being completely grown out so our student population is plateauing out a little bit. We don't anticipate a lot more students in the district,” North East ISD Superintendent Brian Gottardy said.
But the district is still expanding it's programming, specifically, it's Design and Technology Academy (DATA) magnet program.
“One of the things we are really excited about it we're in our second year of a new magnet program at Ed White Middle School. Last year, we had sixth graders in the DATA program. This year, we'll have sixth and seventh graders in the DATA program,” Dr. Gottardy said.
The growing program would allow for a smooth transition into the successful DATA program offered to Roosevelt High School students.
North East ISD told KSAT12 it's not just about success in the classroom, it also has a 360 degree approach to elective and extracurricular activities because it helps to give students a well-rounded background to better prepare them for their future.
