Flavor Favs: 2M Smokehouse

SAN ANTONIO – 2M Smokehouse has only been open for a few weeks and already a line forms well before the doors open for the day.

"We just started barbecuing when we were young in the backyard, and we just fell in love with it," owner Esaul Ramos said.

Located off South W.W. White, 2M Smokehouse is putting out traditional, flavorful barbecue.

After working at the famous La Barbecue in Austin for the past two years, Ramos said it was time to come back home and start his own place with his best friend.

"We just do it the way it's supposed to be done," Ramos said.

A lot of patience and time is needed to tend to each of the meats.

"We spend all night tending to the fires," Ramos said. "We pretty much live here Wednesday through Sunday."

Also, a lot of the food is made in-house, including the pork serrano Oaxaca cheese sausage.

"They're just really good products, we strive in that," Ramos said.

The barbecue you will get looks traditional but a few Tex-Mex twists are thrown in for instance, instead of bread you get tortillas.

"San Antonio is little bit different from all the other cities in Texas, so we want to be able to offer San Antonians stuff that we grew up on," Ramos said.
