Thief steals iPad after finding seller on Craigslist

SAN ANTONIO – A robbery on the city's north side left one man without his iPad Friday night, wondering about the safety of using Craigslist.

Police tell KSAT that the crime started with the victim posting an ad on craigslist, looking to sell his iPad 2. The suspect texted him and they in a parking lot on the 9000 block of Broadway.

The victim had two iPads with him, and the thief asked to see the newer one. After the seller handed it over,

he turned around momentarily to set the other iPad down, but when he turned back around, the thief sprayed him in the face with pepper spray. With the victim blinded, the man took off on foot.

Police on scene said they've seen this crime more recently. Criminals pretend to be legitimate buyers, only to rob the sellers once they meet up.

Apart from stressing that craigslist is not always safe, one of the officers told KSAT that iPhone and iPad users can download an app that tracks your property if you lose it or its stolen.
