Body of teen swept by San Antonio floodwaters found in Cibolo Creek

Avron Adams, 18, was swept away by flood waters in Cibolo Creek

SCHERTZ, Texas – The body of 18-year-old Avron Adams has been recovered in Cibolo Creek more than 24 hours after being swept away in flood-swollen waters, according to local authorities at the scene.

David Harris, spokesman for the City of Schertz, said one of the dogs brought in to help locate the young man, picked up the scent leading to his discovery.

"He was in the water, but under some branches," Harris said.

Harris also confirmed Adams was a former Clemens High School student.

Istvan Domonkos, an acquaintance of the victim, said he and Adams had been among a group of at least seven young men who decided to swim across the creek that divides Schertz and Universal City.

"My other friends crossed but Avron was trying to swim towards me," he said. "I tried to grab him but I couldn't reach him."

Domonkos said he saw Adams go under and never resurface.

Asked why he and the others chose to risk their lives in fast-moving waters, Domonkos said, "I don't know, peer pressure, I guess."
