Sister: Teen who died in Loop 410 crash was Wagner High School student

SAPD: Leslie Avalos, 16, killed in crash with 18-wheeler

San Antonio police investigators said a teen girl has died as a result of a crash on Loop 410 on Tuesday.

Leslie Avalos, 16, was pronounced dead at San Antonio Military Medical Center after the wreck. Her sister confirms Avelos was a sophomore at Wagner High School. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Avalos was in a Ford Mustang heading north on Southeast Loop 410 around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, when she slowed down and was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler at Southcross Boulevard.

Her Mustang was pushed into a BMW in front of her, which Avalos' sister said was driven by her father. Police say Avalos was wearing a seat belt.

No other injuries were reported.

On Wednesday, school officials said there were extra counseling staff on campus to help students and teachers work through the loss.

Some students said Avalos was a soccer player and that her fellow teammates were seen crying.

Students also said it was a very quiet day at school on Wednesday.
