In a blow to Whataburger lovers everywhere, the South Texas fast-food giant is cutting breakfast hours because of a national egg shortage.

Whataburger posted a statement on its Facebook page that read in part:

"Starting June 1st, Whataburger breakfast will be available from 5AM - 9AM, while supplies last. Since we know things may move a little slower in your family on Saturday and Sunday, we will be serving breakfast from 5AM - 11AM during the weekends, when our breakfast normally ends."

The statement continued by saying the company hopes the reduction in breakfast hours does not last long and they apologize the supply of eggs cannot currently meet demand.

The Associated Press reported egg prices reached record levels on May 22 after a bird flu outbreak lead to the death of millions of egg-laying hens last month in Iowa, the country's top egg-producing state.

In a press release, Whataburger said it is working closely with egg suppliers to do everything in the company's power to replenish its egg supply as soon as possible. The company added this was not a health safety issue.

Whataburger says the honey butter chicken biscuit and pancake platter with sausage will still be available for purchase, but during the aforementioned hours.
