SCHERTZ, Texas – Area firefighters made a gruesome discovery Saturday afternoon after they put out a house fire in far east Bexar County.
The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. at a home just off Interstate 10 and Pfeil Road in Schertz.
San Antonio and Schertz fire crews both initially responded to the home which was fully engulfed in flames.
Crews extinguished the fire and said they found two bodies side by side near the front of the house.
Schertz fire investigators said there were several signs the fire may have been intentionally set, but an official cause has not been determined.
The fire is being handled as a criminal investigation, fire officials said.
The home, which was located in a wooded area, was destroyed by the fire.
Schertz fire officials said they planned to go into the home Saturday evening to continue their investigation.
