SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County jury in the 399th District Court sentenced Christopher Padilla to 52 years in prison Tuesday for the murder of Baldemar Perez in March 2013.

The events leading to Perez's murder started when Padilla and his accomplice, Tyler Miller, robbed a man outside a strip club on the Northwest Side of San Antonio. Later, in the 500 block of Old Highway 90, Padilla and Miller drove up to Perez, who was helping a woman find her keys in a dark parking lot.

The woman who was with Perez said the two men got out of their vehicle and started beating Perez, killing him.

Padilla was quoted as saying "I beat an innocent man to death with my bare hands" during his questioning. He managed to slip off his GPS ankle monitor while awaiting trial.

The co-defendant in the case, Tyler Miller, is currently awaiting trial.
