Tony Ayala Jr.'s death officially ruled heroin overdose

SAN ANTONIO – New information surfaced Thursday in the case surrounding the death of San Antonio boxer Tony Ayala Jr.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office officially confirmed he died from a heroin overdose.

Ayala, 52, was found dead inside his West Side gym on the morning of May 12.

San Antonio police investigators said he was lying on the floor with a syringe and heroin nearby.
