SAN ANTONIO – The family of Marcus Cummings remembered the 20-year-old killed Saturday night.
The shooting took place around 8:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of Meadow Trace Street, in a neighborhood near Culebra Road and Grissom Road.
"We here to keep they mind off of the bad times. Because once that casket close and that casket go down, then it’s going to really hurt,” said Larry Petty, Cummings uncle. “So, in order for them not to hurt until then we going to keep 'em smiling until then that's when reality actually sets in."
Police at the scene said Cumming and a 17-year-old girl were in a pickup truck on the side of the street when a second vehicle appeared.
Witnesses say an argument ensued before several shots were fired by the people inside the unidentified vehicle.
The teen was shot in the leg and was taken by somebody at the scene to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital.
Cummings was transported to University Hospital but later died.
"How can you take somebody life that all they did was give life to everybody else?" Petty wondered.
Police have yet to release details of the vehicle or of the people involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
