SAN ANTONIO – Friday's second East Side shooting added to list of recent violence
Friday night's shooting is the second East Side shooting in the day, and the fourth violent incident in that area this week.
Shell casings litter the ground on Morningview drive on the city's East Side. Sadly, it was a familiar scene to SAPD officers, who investigated another East Side shooting earlier Friday.
This time, three people standing in the street were shot in a drive-by.
"They found two victims here. There's a third victim that was found later on Rambling and Houston (streets)," Chief William McManus said.
McManus said all three victims are in their mid to late 20s. He said one was shot in the face, and one in the abdomen. The third man was shot in an unknown location. The one shot in the abdomen is the one who was in critical condition and went straight into surgery at SAMMC.
McManus said three to four suspects got away in a four-door gray Dodge or Chrysler, and police are tracking them now.
Police are looking for a connection in the recent string of violence on the East Side, thinking most of it is gang related.
Friday night's Morningview shooting is less than 3 miles from the shooting earlier Friday on Nevada and Monumental. It was only a mile and a half away from where the burning body was found on Yucca Thursday night.
For weeks, McManus has been working to battle crime on the East Side with a new community coalition, and extra officers on patrol.
"It typically takes a certain number of arrests of certain people for it to die down again, for it to go away. We're not there just yet but we are working as hard as we can," McManus said.
He's publicly calling for an end to the bloodshed.
"Put your darn guns down and if you have a quarrel talk about it. I mean this has been going on way too long," McManus said
He's rolling out yet another set of initiatives on Monday, hoping that will help calm the violence.
Police say after the triple shooting at Morningview, there was another drive by shooting down the road. Shots were fired at a house, but no one was hit.
Investigators are working to find out if the same people are responsible.
Anyone who has information about any of the shootings, or the getaway car is asked to call San Antonio police.
